Brazil’s Neymar made waves at the World Cup and beyond with his performance. At the time of writing he remains in the spotlight, despite being linked with several high-end American clubs and signing a new contract.

Now, with a season’s run of games under his belt, Neymar is preparing for his next move.

In the coming weeks, he will meet with Manchester United, who have been heavily linked with his signature, as well as a host of Serie A clubs.

And the Barcelona forward says he is ready to accept any offer he gets.

“I do not see myself as a number or a symbol,” Neymar told the BBC. “I am a footballer. I want to be a footballer. I will try to do my best to try and help the club win the next titles.”

Neymar has played for Barcelona since he was a teenager, making his debut in 2009. During that time – with the exception of a lengthy injury lay-off – he has won eight La Liga titles, five Champions League titles and four Copas de la Liga.

But since his move to Spain at the start of 2016 he has made just two appearances for the national team in Brazil – and those came against Mexico.

Neymar won the Ballon d’Or at the end of last season

This year, however, Neymar scored against both France and Germany in the same friendly – putting him in pole position to claim the Ballon d’Or.

Yet despite his successes, he has not always lived up to the hype. Last year he finished sixth in the Ballon d’Or voting while being named the best player in the Confederations Cup.

And in an underwhelming final season at Barca, the forward has seen his contract running to the end of the 2022 World Cup on a knife-edge.

After being linked with Manchester United, the player, who will turn 28 next summer, has the option of remaining at Barcelona until the end of 2021. But there are signs of his frustration in the past few days, when he expressed his desire to leave the club and move to another top European club.
