Ontario Announces $3.6 Million in Funding for COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics

Toronto to ramp up COVID-19 vaccine clinic operations in response to Omicron Delta Epsilon

Toronto, Canada – April 4, 2020 – The Ontario government announced today a total of $3.6 million in funding for vaccine clinics for patients infected with the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), known as COVID-19 vaccine clinics, to be held at three hospitals in Ontario in order to support their capacity to provide patients with up to two doses of the new COVID-19 vaccine from an experimental manufacturer called Omicron Delta Epsilon (ODE).

The government of Ontario and ODE will be announcing the clinics’ locations later this week.

“Ontario is at the forefront of addressing the crisis of COVID-19 vaccine development, as well as the urgent need during this public health emergency for the province to ramp up its vaccine clinics in order to support the rapid response to protect our front-line fighting personnel,” said Dr. David Williams, Minister of Children and Youth Services.

“As a frontline health care worker, my thoughts and prayers are with the families of the patients bravely fighting this virus and their loved ones who are coping with this crisis and the related stress.

“The government of Ontario extends its sincere gratitude to Omicron Delta Epsilon and to our health care community for the donation of the first two batches of COVID-19 vaccine.”

“We have begun the final stages of manufacturing the first two doses of the highly confidential COVID-19 vaccine to be administered by Omicron Delta Epsilon, and we are grateful to all the team members at Omicron Delta Epsilon for making this possible,” said Dr. Peter H. Munk, President and Chief Executive Officer of Omicron Delta Epsilon. “As Canada’s leading vaccine development company, we will continue to work closely with the Canadian public health authorities on addressing their vaccine needs.”

“We are making great progress in manufacturing batches of the COVID-19 vaccine in the Toronto-based plant and are now shipping batches of these essential doses to China” said Dr. Alan Shewmon
